Joan - i certainly remember you, Nancy (still miss our chats), your brother Abbie - was a terrific skater - backflips/twirling etc. The Peanut Parade -was a big occasion- I wonder how Almonte came to having this parade - someone worked for Planter's Peanuts?? Maybe someone knows. I will email you today and catch up on the past 40+ years.Submitted by Joanna on Friday, July 16, 2010
I was born and raised in Almonte. I am related to the Munro and Becket family. I left the area in the late 60's and have only been back a couple of times since. I have a niece still living in the area. I remember the Majaury's, Freddie Leach, Janet & Brian Drynan, Elaine Napier, Joanne Meehan, and the Porteous families. I couldn't put a face to them all now but it is nice to read up and it would be nice to get in touch with some of those people. I lived near the water town and the town has grown quit a bit since I saw it last. Does anyone remember the Donkey Baseball games and the Peanut parade that was held every year what a laugh that was. Do they still have those events anymore? Have an nice summer everyone.Submitted by Joan Fraser <bjfras@shaw.ca>
I'm researching for Graham relatives from Carleton Place. My Great Grandfather David James Graham was born in Ireland and settled in Carleton Place with his wife Margaret Kelly. One of his son's (my grandfather David James Graham) was born either in Carleton Place or Ottawa in 1877. If anyone knows more info not sure when the son died. It's a long story and would love to find out more. I have been looking for about 40 years now and I won't rest until I find out the rest of the story.Submitted by Jane McPhee (Graham) <janemcphee1@yahoo.ca>
