Inspired by rural customs – contemporary and older – local stories and those from elsewhere as well as the industry of the Ottawa Valley textile mills in the last century, Jill’s work is colourful, lively and may incorporate a surprising anecdote.
Artist’s statement: My work is animated by informal subjects and common practices, but offers imaginative twists for the observer to consider. I believe even the most seemingly simple ideas are not. They can be inspiring, they can be whimsical or demanding. Uncomplicated images encourage a myriad of stories.
Jill sold her first painting, Gertrude’s Chair, to Juan Geuer, international scientist/artist (1917-2009), wonderful citizen and good friend. Click here for Jill’s artist CV & past shows.
